Biography

Vânia Serrão Sousa holds a PhD in the field of environmental sciences and technologies, having conducted her doctoral research on the development of drinking water treatments processes for the removal of metal-based nanoparticles.

Vânia started her career as researcher in 2008 and since then she has been collaborating as Research Fellow and Team Member in multiple international and national research projects in the fields of water and wastewater treatment, sustainable water treatments, emerging contaminants, nanotechnology, and ecotoxicology. She published over 20 papers in international peer-reviewed journals and acts as reviewer in several renowned publications.

Her current postdoctoral research encompasses the development of more sustainable wastewater treatments achieving the quality needed to its reuse, contributing with scientific knowledge to achieve a substantial increase in wastewater recycling and safe reuse, increasing water use efficiency across all sectors fully aligned with the SDG 6 of the UN 2030 Agenda.
