Biography

Nazaré Couto has a PhD in Environmental Sciences and Technology from the University of Porto (FCUP, 2010). Since 2011, she has been a Researcher at CENSE, where she is also the Coordinator of the Research Area - Bioresources and Green Technologies (B&GT) since 2021. Inside B&GT leads a team in two main areas: pollution control and remediation technologies at different environmental/industrial matrices and soil management, assessing quality indicators and wider value. From the NOVA side, she coordinates European projects (INTERREG SUDOE and Horizon Europe), leading work packages of piloting or tasks related to quality indicators. From the European side, she actively contributes to the European Union Network for the Implementation and Enforcement of Environmental Law (IMPEL), is part of scientific evaluation committees and is an expert for the European Commission. 

Nazaré had short-medium term missions in European (University of Sapienza, University of Málaga, Arctic Technology Center, Technical University of Denmark) and International (Lehigh University, Chinese Academy of Sciences) institutions. She dedicated the last six years to collaborating in teaching curricular units related to Soil Remediation at Porto University and NOVA University Lisbon, where she coordinated the curricular unit Soil Management and Remediation Techniques at the MSc level. Also, as part of her institutional responsibilities, since 2021, she integrates the Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering Council.
